The history

Where it began

Arroyo Grande incorporated in 1911. Its historic Village includes the Swinging Bridge over Arroyo Grande Creek, first built in 1875.

Pismo Beach incorporated in 1946. The name comes from the Chumash word for tar, and the town became famous for the Pismo clam.

Grover Beach incorporated in 1959 as Grover City and changed its name to Grover Beach in 1992. Oceano is home to the Oceano Dunes, part of the larger Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes complex.
